Volunteering
The success of the Deane Road Cemetery restoration project will stand or fall on the generosity of volunteers, giving their time.
The physical restoration is all but complete, many stones have been relaid and put back upright for the first time in decades. The path around the cemetery and the drive way are due to surfaced with a smart bonded gravel during the summer. The new building has been erected, complete with storage, a fully accessible toilet and display space.
What we need now is to grow our team of enthusiastic volunteers.
Would you like to help with the continuation of our work?
We need gardeners and labourers to help us keep on top of the growing grass, weeds, ivy and various shrubs that long to grow and take over. Every Spring they are resurgent and it is only with the help of people like you that we can keep on top of them. If you can spare a few hours on a regular basis, we have all the tools you will need.
We need volunteers to help give guided tours to school children, societies and organisations, the general public, artists and historians, genealogists and Jewish enthusiasts. Would you like to learn more about the history of this great cemetery and undertake training so that you can wow visitors with your knowledge?
We would love volunteers with some building and maintenance skills who can help us to keep on top of ongoing repairs. We have an extensive maintenance plan for the next 20 years, what we need now are people to help us carry it out.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with social media, tweeting about our open days, keeping our website uptodate, posting photos and events on to our Facebook account. You could help with this even if you were not in Liverpool.
We would like someone to help us to keep in touch with the Friends of Deane Road Cemetery, perhaps utilising MailChimp. We have an extensive contact list of friends which could easily be loaded up and used to ensure that everyone gets a newsletter every month from us.
We are looking for fundraising enthusiasts to help us to continue to bring in income to help with our ongoing maintenance, and to provide some of the items on our wish list. This volunteer might make funding bids on behalf of the cemetery, or make direct appeals to descendants of people buried at Deane Road Cemetery to repair their ancestors tombstones.
We would love to find a volunteer living in Kensington who would call in to the cemetery every day to check that everything is still safe and secure and that there have been no security incidents over night.
We are also looking for enthusiasts who would like to join the committee and help us with our ongoing plans to develop and extend visiting opportunities.
There is so much you could help with, and we would love to have your support.
